Description

This spring, the Aga Khan Museum invites you to enter the mystical world of one of history’s most influential poets in our next major exhibition: Rumi.

Rumi takes visitors on an extraordinary visual journey through the life and legacy of Jalal al-Din Muhammad of Balkh, otherwise known as Rumi. On the 750th anniversary of his passing, the exhibition will explore Rumi’s enduring impact on arts and culture — past and present.

Globally renowned for his messages of love and inner transformation, going so far as to influence pop culture megastars like Beyoncé and Coldplay, Rumi's mystical writings have been reinterpreted for audiences across many centuries and languages, yet, 750 years later, his core messages of peace and love remain universal.

Within the exhibition, visitors will find a striking exploration of Rumi through both a historic and contemporary lens, including site-specific installations by Hangama Amiri, Erdem Taşdelen, and Simin Keramati.

Venture outdoors to the Aga Khan Park and experience Listen. — an immersive and seemingly floating jumble of letters by Toronto-based Matt Donovan and Hallie Siegel that, only under certain weather conditions, reveals part of a 13th-century poem attributed to Rumi.

Rumi: A visual journey through the life and legacy of a Sufi mystic, and Listen.

Open May 13 in our Temporary Exhibitions Gallery and in the Aga Khan Park.

Curator: Dr. Michael Chagnon
